Sheep Health - Getting The Message, Close To Home

SAC News Release Ref. No: 09N78

Advice on sheep health to be given (opens in new window)

An SAC sheep health expert is amongst a group of specialists who will be advising sheep farmers and crofters in the Highlands on the latest developments. Together with local vets and Ian Urquhart, Business Manager with drug company Intervet, SAC’s Ian Pritchard will be speaking at two meetings, one afternoon and one evening, on Thursday, 10th December.

Ian manages the SAC Premium Sheep and Goat Health Scheme which offers a screening and testing service to sheep producers anxious to eradicate key disease threats to their flocks.  Equally important is the proper treatment of pests and parasites and local vets can play a key role in helping with health planning.

“Judging from recent experience, pregnant ewes across the Highlands will face a tough winter in the period before lambing,” says Ian Pritchard. “It’s important that shepherds keep them and their future offspring as healthy and robust as possible. The meetings will offer advice on a range of topics."

The meetings will be on 10th December in Rogart Village Hall at 1.30 pm and Bettyhill Hotel  at 7.30 pm. To confirm a place, phone SAC on 01467 625385.
