SAC News Release Ref. No: 09N40
Published: 14 Jul 2009
Well known, Ayr-based, poultry specialist Tom Acamovic has been awarded the title Reader in SAC. The academic title, awarded by the Scottish Agricultural College at its recent graduation ceremony, recognises Dr. Acamovic’s scholarship and contribution to research in a field where his expertise in chemistry and animal nutrition is recognised throughout the international poultry industry.
Tom has been with SAC for over 40 years and is one of the few members of staff to have served in all three campuses. He started in Edinburgh, in 1968, as a Scientific Officer, gaining his PhD in 1987. He moved to Aberdeen as a research scientist and lecturer in 1989 where his work on the nutrition of farm animals established an international reputation. In 1997, Tom became resident in Ayr as a senior research scientist at SAC’s Avian Science Research Centre.
Credited with over 260 publications, Tom is recognised by his peers as one of the UK’s leading poultry nutritionists. He currently chairs a wide range of committees including: the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Agriculture Sector, the UK branch of the World’s Poultry Science Association, and the organising committee of the 17th European Symposium on Poultry Nutrition. Tom has made a major contribution to the way in which poultry are, and will be, fed across the world.
