International Students Face The Haggis Test
Ayr Civic Reception 2009 (opens in new window)
First-year SAC students helped make up the guest list from 26 different countries at a Civic Reception in Ayr Town Hall organised by the local Rotary Club.
The ceilidh was hosted by local Rotary Club President and former SAC colleague, Professor Geoff Barber, ably assisted by another ex-SAC man and Rotary President-Elect, Don Stevenson.
The Auchincruive contingent joined others from University of West of Scotland and Ayr College. They were welcomed by the Provost of South Ayrshire Council, councillors and Rotarians and went home with stories about haggis, neeps and tatties. In between, they had faced the dangers of the Gay Gordons and Dashing White Sergeant or the muddles and bottlenecks of ‘Drops of Brandy’. It was a night of kilts and tartan trews, with international flags on display. Music came from members of the Ayrshire Fiddle Orchestra.
