Dr Laura Cooper with SAC staff (opens in new window)
Dr Laura Cooper, Dean of Instruction at the College of the Rockies, British Columbia, Canada was a recent guest of SAC’s Social Sciences Teaching Group.
She was on a one-week visit to Scotland to consolidate the arrangements for an EU/Canada student exchange programme entitled “Sustainable Tourism: A Transatlantic Perspective”.
Whilst at SAC’s Ayr Campus, she met staff and students, as well as taking in a few local tourist attractions, yet still had time for a breakfast with Robert Burns. This was held at Laura’s four-star accommodation in Ayr, the Burnside Guest House, where the owner, Liz Drysdale, a former member of SAC’s staff, prepared a traditional spread, including porridge, (but with cream and whisky!). Also invited to this special event were four prize-winning students from the Tourism programme, along with their tutors, Moira Birtwistle and Joy Gladstone.
After attending SAC’s Ayr prize giving at Oswald Hall that same day, Laura was whisked away by David McKenzie SAC’s Head of Learning Division to SAC HQ in Edinburgh, where she renewed her acquaintance with Linda Whillans, Group Manager for Social Sciences Teaching Group, met various other SAC staff and made visits in the capital.
For more information of this Transatlantic programme, contact Linda Whillans. Report and photos by Joy Gladstone, SSTG.
