Micro-Renewables Course
Course Programme
The Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Authority is offering land managers in the National Park area a programme of free training events during 2009 to address some of the key issues and opportunities facing land managers.
This free workshop, delivered by specialist consultants from SAC, will explain the opportunities and constraints for incorporating micro-renewables into a rural business.
The proposed programme would include:
- Jargon and units - Units of power and energy, Scale of installation, Installed capacity v yield, carbon savings.
- Revenue - Displaced units, Sale of excess, ROCs.
- Wind Power - Resource estimation and measurement, power curves, siting, costs, planning issues, environmental issues, grid connection, payback analysis.
- Hydro Power - Head and flow estimation and measurement, types of turbine, costs, planning issues, environmental and fisheries issues, grid connection, payback analysis.
- Solar Thermal - Resource estimation, system design, compatibility with other heat sources, costs, planning issues, payback analysis.
- Solar PV - Resource estimation, system design, costs, planning issues, payback analysis.
- Heat Pumps - Ground source/air source/water source, basic system design, payback analysis.
- Grants and other sources of funding - SRDP, SCHRI, Capital allowances etc.
A site visit is included.
