Course Programme

This one-day course covers seven subject areas:

  • Assessing Available Resources (physical and human)
  • Understanding and Analysing Farm Accounts
  • Identifying Potential Enterprises
  • Carrying out Feasibility Studies (including market research, marketing plans and preparing a business plan)
  • Presenting an Application for Financial Assistance
  • Statutory Requirements (e.g. planning, environmental health)
  • Customer Service

This interactive course is designed to be run with 4-5 trainees (one trainer) or 6-10 trainees (two trainers).  A number of practical exercises is included.  Additional input from representatives of banks, enterprise companies and customer service providers is also built into the course.

By the end of the course the participants will:


  • be able to identify available resources and  how best they could be used
  • understand how to analyse an existing business’s financial strengths and weaknesses
  • be able to use techniques such as SWOT analysis to assess and rank potential ventures
  • understand the principles of feasibility studies and business plans
  • have an awareness of how to seek funding
  • be aware of some statutory requirements for diversified activities
  • understand the importance of good customer service
