Using Farm Accounts To Improve Business Profitability

Course Programme

The course objective is to explain how to interpret farm business accounts  and how to use the information to improve business profitability.

The tutorials are run at weekly intervals and will have two tutors, as the 8-12 trainees are expected to benchmark their own business and may need individual support.  Trainees are provided with relevant comparative data from the Farm Accounts Survey.

Approximate cost: £200 (with 75% LMO grant = £20)

The course is designed around three half-day tutorial sessions of 3.5 hours each.

By the end of the course the participants will:


  • have improved understanding of their accounts
  • be able to recognise their business’s strengths and weaknesses
  • be able to compare their business’s financial performance with that of other similar businesses
  • have developed ideas to improve profitability
