Efficient Fertiliser Use
Course Programme
The course objective is to maximise yields while maintaining soil fertility. This will be achieved by replacing the nutrients that a crop actually removes, once nutrient levels in the soil are within the optimum range.
The course includes:
- details of principles of balance sheet manuring for P and K
- calculation of off-takes by different crops
- fertiliser allowances for manures and slurry
- practical examples
Approximate cost: £80 (with 75% LMO grant = £20)

Qualifications Obtained
By the end of the course the participants will:
- understand the principles of balance sheet manuring
- know the optimum soil status to aim to achieve
- be able to calculate how much P and K crops are removing
- be able to calculate how much P and K manures and slurries are supplying
- understand how plants make use of P and K from fertilisers and in the soil
