BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection (Agriculture) - Training Course
Course Programme
Pre-BASIS Course - this course will help candidates focus on what they need to study in order to become BASIS qualified. The BASIS project will be discussed and introductory material on weeds, pests and diseases and on ICM.
Agronomy Course - this is an intensive course that focuses particularly on control of weeds, pests and diseases and also covers the importance of accurate recognition and an appreciation of the biology of weeds, pests and diseases.
Safety and Legislation Course - covers pesticide composition, groups, active ingredients, formulation and environmental and safety aspects of handling, transport and application of pesticides.
Revision & Exams - two days of revision and written and viva exams.

Course Details
Location of Course
The SAC BASIS training for the BASIS FSTS Certificate in Crop Protection (Agriculture) course runs in Edinburgh, Scotland. This location in Scotland is convenient for access from other parts of Scotland or from northern England with good access by rail, road and air. There is plenty of inexpensive bed and breakfast, guest house or hotel accommodation within walking distance of SAC at King's Buildings. An accommodation list is available.
The SAC BASIS training for the BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection (Agriculture) is run by SAC in Edinburgh over the winter period.
Minimum recommended attendance is 11 days. Note that a project is undertaken that is additional to the training and exams.
Attendance at the Pre-BASIS course is optional, the alternative being to study the Pre-BASIS material online.

Option of two dates for exams (provisional dates dependant on number of candidates):
BASIS Revision Day & Exam, 22-23 February 2012 or 23rd - 24h May 2012
Additional crop walk days
Qualifications Obtained
BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection - a nationally recognised qualification for practitioners offering advice on the safe use of pesticides on agricultural crops.
SAC Facilities
Training is delivered by BASIS-qualified SAC instructors and by SAC specialist consultants
Course Costs
Full course including exams - £1560 + BASIS examination fee of £260 (total £1820)
Revision day & full exams - £125 + BASIS examination fee of £260 (total £385)
Ad hoc training days £120 / day
Eligible land managers may be able to utilise training option funding under their Land Management Contract entitlement.
