SAC Sets Fees for Students from the Rest of UK

2012 entry

SAC has set the level of tuition fee it proposes to charge new undergraduate full-time students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland (Rest of UK) at £6,750 per year from 2012/2013. This equates to £27,000 for a four year Honours degree.

SAC has also announced that it intends to offer additional support to Rest of UK (RUK) students through bursaries and scholarships to assist with tuition fees and travel and living costs.

SAC’s Centenary Bursary scheme already provides £20,000 each year to help students. The additional funding will amount to 20% of SAC’s overall RUK fee income annually from 2012/13.

The decisions were sanctioned on Thursday 22 September 2011 by SAC’s Finance and General Purposes Committee on behalf of the SAC Board.

SAC is acting in line with other Scottish Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in setting and publishing its fee levels for Rest of UK undergraduate students.

Scottish students coming to SAC will continue to be funded by the Scottish Government.

SAC Chief Executive and Principal, Professor Bill McKelvey said: “We don’t want to disadvantage non-Scottish students and have therefore set a fee which is comparable with similar UK institutions offering a full degree programme.

SAC believes its Rest of UK tuition fee level will place students living in England in the same position as they would be had they opted to attend an HEI there.

We do, however, appreciate that Rest of UK students are facing a big change so from 2012/13 we will be making additional funding available for bursaries and scholarships to assist with fees and travel and living costs.”

The RUK fees will only apply to new students enrolling at SAC from 2012/13.  They will not apply to new RUK students enrolling in the academic year 2011/12 or RUK students progressing to the next year of the academic programme they enrolled on initially.
