Barony College

Dumfries

Barony is a specialist college providing vocational training and education for the land-based industries.

The range of courses includes agriculture, agricultural engineering, environmental resources and countryside skills, deer farming, fish farming, forestry, horticulture, veterinary nursing, animal care and special needs.

All courses are designed to be flexible and carry nationally recognised qualifications. Several of these courses complement some of those offered by SAC. For example, there are obvious progression routes from Barony College's National Certificate courses in Agriculture and Horticulture to SAC's HNC, HND and degree courses in Agriculture and Horticulture.

Similarly, students with Barony's HNC Countryside Management can progress onto SAC's HND or degree courses in Countryside Management.

Progression from Barony College courses into other SAC courses, for example those in Rural Business Management, may also be possible. In 1997, as part of a move to strengthen these links, and with the intention of developing others, Barony College became an Associated College of SAC.
