Additional Funding Information

Information about some additional sources of funding can be found below.

Financial support from Trusts and Charities

Many educational trusts, benevolent funds and professional bodies offer support to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. There are many (and often time-consuming ways) to identify funds that may reflect your own unique situation but help is available in the form of search facilities.

Scholarship Search enables you to search by subject area or type of funds available as well as entering your particular details such course of study, domicile etc

For Scottish domicile students, the Students Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) will, on receipt of its completed REE1, search the Register of Educational Endowments for you. Form REE1 can be found in Other Sources of Funding on the SAAS website

SAC is recognised as an education provider for the purposes of certain UK Government funding initiatives, e.g. Adult Learning and the Ministry of Defence's Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme.

Payment of fees with ILAs

SAC's academic courses are registered with LearnDirect Scotland for the purposes of funding from Individual Learning Accounts (ILAs). This means that students studying individual modules on a part-time basis, may be eligible for up to £200 of funding.  Students wishing to use ILA Scotland funding toward their fees need to register with, and apply to, the  ILA Scotland by 'phoning  0808 100 1090 or visiting the ILA Scotland website

It is hoped that ILAs will be accepted towards all SAC academic awards and short courses registered on the national learning opportunities database. If you do not see your course of interest on the database, please contact Jill Thomson for advice.

Students studying HE level modules part time may also be eligible for funding. From 1 April 2011 the scheme formerly known as ‘ILA500’ will be delivered solely by SAAS as a ‘part-time fee grant’.  There will be very little impact on eligibility rules other than that students will now have to comply with the existing residency criteria as operated for full-time support.  This will be reflected in the SAAS application form from the start of April.

Up to 31 March 2011, students should continue to apply for an application pack at www.ilascotland.org.uk. From the 1 April 2011, students should download an application form from the SAAS website (www.saas.gov.uk).
