Grafting Secrets Shared

Author: Jill Thomson

Grafting is a method of plant propagation that many people find a little mysterious and is a skill not everyone in horticulture has.

Peter MacDonald, one of SAC Ayr's Horticulture lecturers has taught grafting to our SAC students for many years and has also been involved in delivering grafting workshops as far afield as Bulgaria and Portugal. This year he will deliver workshops at Threave Gardens to the students in their school of horticulture and at to HNC students at Oatridge College.

SAC's Countryside Management students were also interested to learn about and gain experience in using grafting to propagate trees. Peter enjoys teaching about propagation as it is a subject close to his heart, with application across a number of rural industries in addition to horticulture.
