Core Definition of Rurality
Rural Scotland
The Scottish Executive core definition of rurality classifies settlements of 3000 or less people to be rural.
To help understand the spread of population over the country, the Scottish Executive has developed a 6-fold and an 8-fold urban/rural classification of Scotland.
The classifications are based on settlement size and remoteness (measured by drive times).
