Ayr Horticulture and Garden Design Society

SAC Ayr

Run by the students the society organises social events, visits and speakers in addition to the course work.

Visits have included gardens not normally open to the public like Portrac gardens and specialist nurseries like John Butterworth’s nursery specialising in old Scottish apple varieties.

The society helps to arrange the Royal Horticulture Society annual talk in Ayr, in 2008 this was given by Gay Search, the well know television presenter and author, speaking on Front Gardens.

A heat of the Institute of Horticulture Young Horticulturist of the Year Quiz is also organised by the Society, the winner progressing to the Scottish Final.
