Beinn Odhar 901m (OS map 50; NN338338)
From Auchtertyre follow the landrover track to above the viaduct, then climb steep grassy slopes to the wide ridge of Meall Buidhe. Follow the ridge North to the summit.
Good views to Black Mount, Beinn Dorain, Glen Coe and beyond.
Return the way you came. Alternatively, start at Tyndrum, (park at Brodies shop), and follow the West Highland Way to the railway bridge. Cross the bridge and head from Crom Allt which flows out Coire Thoin.
An old pony track, visible from the bridge, follows the W bank of the Crom Allt a short way then zig-zags uphill in easy gradients to lead mine workings. Other mine workings can be seen to the SW. Continue up to a ridge leading to the top.
Return by Meall Buidhe and either Auchtertyre Glen or by steep slopes following the forestry fence to the Crom Allt and Tyndrum. Coire Thoin is very steep and eroded and should be avoided.
Ptarmigan and mountain hare can be seen on the summit slopes. Red deer antlers may be found in the peat hags of Meall Buidhe, rubbed off by stags during winter.
