Veterinary Services

SAC offers an Equine Diagnostic Service for all types of horses, ponies and donkeys across the UK.  Clients include racing stables and eventing yards as well as individual horse owners.

Diagnostic services:

Clinical Pathology

A full range of biochemical and haemotological tests and hormone assays is available for diagnostic purposes and health monitoring.

Microbiology

Services cover bacteriology, mycology and virology.  Contagious equine metritis (CEM) testing and certification is carried out by our CEM Approved Laboratory at St Boswells.

Molecular Biology

Lawsonia intracellularis PCR test for foals

Serology

Tests for diagnostic and screening purposes are available for a range of bacterial and viral diseases.

Histopathology and Cytology

Our histopathologists provide specialist reports on biopsies, post mortem samples, aspirates and body fluids.

Post Mortem Examination

Post mortem examinations and abortion investigations can be carried out.

Health Monitoring

This new service is aimed at trainers of performance horses although it is equally valid for riding schools, trekking centres and individual horse owners.

• Samples collected at regular intervals are used to assess fitness and identify any imminent problems early
• Tests used can be tailored to each situation or individual animal
• Printouts of results over time will be provided
