Post Office Regulations

The Royal Mail has strict regulations governing the sending of pathological material through the post.

Primary receptacle - specimens should be sent in a labelled primary watertight, leakproof container which should be wrapped in sufficient absorbent material to act as a buffer to absorb all fluid in case of breakage.

A second durable, watertight, leakproof receptacle to enclose and protect the primary receptacle.  Several wrapped primary receptacles may be placed in one secondary receptacle.  Sufficient additional absorbent material must be used to cushion multiple primary receptacles.

The secondary receptacle is placed in an outer package to protect it from physical damage and water whilst in transit.  It must be clearly labelled "pathological specimen".

Submission Forms And Testing Kits

Submissions should be accompanied by the appropriate Capital Diagnostics submission form.  Red submission forms and Blue histopathology submission forms can be obtained by post or by using a proforma from the website.  We recommend that you fill in the submission stub for your own records.

Sterile universal pots. a full range of blood tubes and pre-paid labels/envelopes are available on request on the understanding that they be used only for Capital Diagnostics.

Please state clearly on the submission form how you wish to receive your report, i.e. telephone, fax, etc.
