The Scottish SPCA submitted the carcase of a juvenile badger (Meles meles) reportedly found dead facing out from the entrance to its set. Postmortem examination revealed multiple fractures in the ventral pelvis with extensive associated muscle tearing and haemorrhage. No other evidence of trauma or scuffing of the skin or claws was found and no definitive cause for the trauma was established. Road traffic trauma was considered possible but unlikely because the set was at least one kilometre from any roads.
A juvenile female badger (Meles meles) was submitted for necropsy. Frank haemorrhaging into the peritoneal cavity due to hepatic rupture and haemorrhaging into the pericardial sac were thought to have resulted from blunt trauma.
