Wild Birds

Trichomonosis was responsible for the death of a woodpigeon (Columba palumbus) and two chaffinches (Fringilla coelebs). All three birds had caseous necrotic lesions in the upper digestive tract.

Caseous necrosis of the upper oesophagus and fine foci of necrosis in the liver were found in a thin greenfinch (Carduelis chloris) from which S Typhimurium DT56 variant was isolated.

Pigeon paramyxovirus type 1 was isolated from the tissues of a feral pigeon (Columba livia) found alive but unable to fly.

A heavy growth of P multocida was recovered from the breast muscle of an immature mute swan (Cygnus olor); the affected muscle was dark, with yellow necrotic tracks.
