Gamebirds

A parasitic sinusitis was evident in five pheasants aged five months, submitted after a shoot because they were found to be in poor body condition.

Worms approximately 8 mm in length were extracted from the respiratory sinuses of all the birds, together with clotted blood. The worms did not appear to be Syngamus trachea and were provisionally identified as Cyathostoma species. Final identification is awaited.
