Cage And Aviary Birds
Enterococcus hirae was recovered in heavy pure growth from the liver and intestine of three grass parakeets that died in an aviary. All birds had fluid intestinal contents, and an adult roundworm (Ascaridia spp) was found in the intestine of one bird.
Enterococcus hirae is a recognised cause of septicaemia in psittacines, and has been associated with deaths in budgerigars with internal parasites.
