Cage and Aviary Birds

Exposure to noxious fumes was suspected to be the cause of collapse and death of an Amazon parrot that had been located in a kitchen with the oven left on. The bird was one of four parrots in the same household, and a second death occurred several hours later.
A viral hepatopathy was suspected in a three-year-old Harris hawk that was found dead following a short history of inappetance.  The other bird of the pair exhibited similar signs and clinical biochemistry identified markedly elevated alaninine transferase level consistent with liver damage.
