Training Of Young Romanian Specialists In Agricultural Extension - World Bank
Courses delivered in Scotland
Ten Romanian Specialists (from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Rural Development; Ministry of European Integration; the National Agency for Consulting in Agriculture; University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, Bucureşti; Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences) participated in a 4-week training course at the SAC Campus in Aberdeen.
The training programme had four main themes:
- Farm business management – to help put technical advice in a commercial context

Extension methodology – to emphasise the role of communication in bringing about change

Operational procedures and extension programmes – to illustrate the importance of planning and of having clear objectives and targets

Extension systems, EU policy and rural development – to examine alternative systems to the "Scottish Model" and assess the implications of EU accession for extension in Romania
By the end of the course, the trainees were able to:
- Analyse farm accounts to identify the main strengths and weaknesses of the businesses

Design and deliver training sessions using participatory training techniques

Conduct presentations summarising key messages
- Write reports evaluating the Scottish approach to agricultural extension and identifying areas for application within Romania.
