PCHS Testing Procedures
- Prior to testing please contact the Premium Cattle Health Scheme with details of testing date, number of animals to be tested and test(s) required. Contact details are in the right hand column of this page.
- A completed PCHS submission form should accompany all samples.
- For routine herd screens complete PCHS submission form 1.
- For added animals, clinical screen, reproductive failure, bulk milk test, quarantine test, retest, complete PCHS submission form 2.
- The submission form should be signed by the owner/manager and veterinary surgeon.
- All samples must be appropriately labelled.
- A pre-printed label system is available for routine herd screens. Please contact the Premium Cattle Health Scheme to make use of this service. Contact details are in the right hand column of this page.
- Samples should be dispatched to the laboratory within 48 hours of collection and should be kept refrigerated after collection until dispatch.

Johne’s disease: Status Accredited Monitored Free |
All animals over two years of age to be tested biennially. All non-home bred animals to be tested annually. All animals leaving the herd at more than 12 months since last test to be tested (submit blood and faeces). |
This includes animals that are unwell and die. Sampling can be done at the time of the anthrax investigation. |

BVD: Status Qualifying and Accredited |
Five animals from each separately managed group of cattle in the age range 9 to 18 months. |
Ensure that all groups are screened and that every year the calf crop is screened. |

BVD: Eradication (where evidence of infection has been found in the qualifying tests or in any other testing done in the herd) |
Test all animals in the herd over one month of age on one occasion. Test all animals born in the herd in the 12 months after removal of the last persistently infected animal. |

Leptospira hardjo: Status Qualifying |
All animals over 12 months of age intended for breeding to be tested at an interval of 6 to 12 months. |
Two clear tests required. |

Animals over 12 months of age intended for breeding to be tested annually according to sampling frame. |

IBR: Status Qualifying |
All animals over 12 months of age to be tested at an interval of 1 to 12 months. |
Two clear tests required. |
