What are the conversion periods for bringing in conventional breeding and dairy animals to organic systems?

Dairy cows

Dairy cows must be managed in accordance with organic standards for six months, except for feed, which must be complied with for at least three months before the end of the conversion period.

Suckler cows

Cattle whose progeny is intended for meat production must be managed in accordance with these standards for at least 12 weeks before calving.

Ewes

Sheep whose progeny is intended for meat production must be managed in accordance with organic standards from mating.

Sows

Sows whose progeny is intended for meat production must be managed in accordance with organic standards from mating.
