What do the standards specify about these ingredients?

Within the constraints outlined in questions 'What is the minimum proportion of home produced feed in ruminant diets?' and 'What do the standards say with regard to the source of non-organic compounded or blended feeds?'

Fishmeal?

Fishmeal can only be fed to non-ruminant youngstock (poultry up to 5 weeks old and pigs up to 12 weeks old), providing it is a by-product of fish caught for human consumption or from fisheries that have been independently certified as sustainably managed.

Urea?

The use of urea is prohibited.

Soya?

The use of soya is permitted provided it has not been subjected to solvent extraction (i.e. full fat soya is permitted).

Sugar beet pulp?

The use of sugar beet pulp is permitted.

Distillery bi-products?

Distillery bi-products are permitted.

Ammonia treated straw?

It is prohibited to use ammonia treated straw as a feed.

Feeds derived from GMO material?

Feeds derived from GMO material are prohibited.
