Veterinary Serum & Tissue
Minerals play a substantial role in animal health and nutrition. Macro minerals (or major nutrients) are required in larger amounts (e.g. Potassium, Phosphorus, Calcium) and micro (or trace elements) minerals are required in smaller amounts but are still essential for the animal's health and development (e.g. Selenium, Copper, Cobalt). The nutritional quality of pasture, forage and diet plays a major role in the health and reproduction of animals.
Mineral deficiencies / excesses can be encountered in animals resulting in loss of production, poor health, reduced growth rate, possible death and loss of profit. It is also important to remember that many minerals can act antagonistically against the absorption of other minerals.
