Field Trials
SAC have agronomy trial sites throughout Scotland run by two trial teams based in Edinburgh and Aberdeen. In 2005-2006, over 17,000 trial plots were established and managed.
SAC Agronomy Field Trials
- Cover all aspects of crop production: varieties; tillage and establishment techniques; pest, weed and disease control; growth regulation and crop quality
- Include all the major Scottish crops: cereals, oilseeds, potatoes, grassland and horticultural crops
- Supported by science specialists and laboratory services in appropriate disciplines
- Subject to stringent quality control
- Funded from many sources: governmental, levy bodies, commercial companies, farmer groups
- Independent, impartial and confidential (where necessary)
- All levels of trialling from observational plots to fully randomised and replicated trials with full statistical analysis
A detailed individual contract agreement will be drawn up for each trial detailing the treatments applied, standard operating procedures to be followed and the recording, analysis and reporting of results.
