How Can You Minimise The Risk Of Yellow Rust Next Season?
Early sown susceptible winter wheat varieties such as Robigus, will be at risk from autumn infection.
This risk can be minimised by choosing a broad spectrum seed treatment which has some activity against the disease.
Examples include:
- Baytan (triadimenol + fuberidazole)
- Epona (fluquinconazole + prochloraz)
- Galmano (fluquinconazole)
- Galmano plus (fluquinconazole + prochloraz)
- Galmano silver (fluquinconazole)
- Jockey (fluquinconazole + prochloraz)
The early spring fungicide will be critical to ensure season long protection against yellow rust. One reason for the outbreak in 2006 was down to a long gap between the stem extension (GS31) fungicide treatment and the flag leaf (GS39) treatment.
Fortunately, most triazole fungicides will give effective protection, including some of the 'older' products including tebuconazole, cyproconazole and flutriafol. These may have a place in the early spring at the T0 timing.
