Slug threat to emerging oilseed rape

The threat from slugs will be high to germinating oilseed rape during wet

Flea beetle damage however will be  lower risk during wet weather.

Keep a close watch on crops and bear in mind that slugs like damp soil conditions and flea beetles like it dry.

The new flea beetle to look out for; the cabbage stem flea beetle, isn’t quite as picky regarding wet or dry conditions. There are reports of this pest in Fife, Lothians and Borders. The flea beetles can cause shot-holing of the leaves and their grubs will burrow into the stems of plants and feed overwinter.
