Risk of BYDV this autumn

The warmer weather will increase the risk of aphids. Cereal crops sown or to be sown shortly are at risk from aphids and the BYDV that they could be carrying.

Ideally crop stubble should be desiccated with a herbicide, left for 7-10 days, and then ploughed in and the cereal crop sown 2 weeks later. This time delay is needed to ensure that any aphids on the crop stubble will have no local food supply before the next crop germinates.
