Minimum Tillage Campaign

SAC has carried out a campaign to highlight the benefits and disadvantages of minimum tillage over ploughing concerning pests, weeds, diseases and beneficial insects.

A 14 hectare was monitored over three seasons. Half the field was cultivated by plough, the other using minimum tillage techniques.

In the autumn 2001, winter oilseed rape crop was sown. The next crop sown in September 2002 was winter wheat. A second winter wheat crop was sown in September 2003.

A summary of the pests, weeds, diseases and beneficials in each season can be found in the related document links.
