- Scottish farming will have to adapt to climate change, take steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to carbon capture through soil management, crops and timber.
- The Scottish Government has proposed a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 80% by 2050. Scottish Government has estimated that agriculture and related land use could contribute around 20% of total Scottish emissions.
Climate Change Focus Farms
SAC are working with four Climate Change Focus Fams to show what benefits you can gain by minimising harmful greenhouse gas emissions. Over the course of three years, and with the help of SAC specialists, focus farmers and their discussion groups will look at a range of options, consider what steps to put into practice and identify benefits for their farm business.
The Climate Change Focus Farms have a farmer discussion group that meets around five times a year to discuss a range of topics that could benefit the business and contribute to reducing greenhouse gasses as a result of routine practices. Reports on the discussions from each meeting can be found by clicking on the links on the left. Forthcoming meetings will be posted on the News and Events pages.
There will also be a quarterly newsletter following the findings of all the Climate Change Focus Farms. If you would like to be included on the mailing list (your details will not be passed to anyone else), please contact Rebecca Audsley tel: 01292 525089.
