Mr David Green, OBE
Joined the SAC Board in 2008
David Green qualified in History and Politics at Glasgow University but has spent much of his working life in the Highlands where he has been particularly associated with crofting, local government and the Cairngorm National Park of which he has been Convenor since 2006.
He describes himself as a self-employed crofter, running a self-catering holiday business in Achiltibuie, Wester Ross. However, he has spent a considerable time in public life, first as a roadman and snow plough driver and then as an elected member of Highland Regional Council in 1989. He was Highland Council Convenor between 1999 and 2003.
David Green became a Board member of the Crofters Commission in 1998, serving until 2002. In 2007 he was appointed Crofters Commission Chairman, the same year he was awarded an OBE for services to local government and crofting. He is also a member of the Scottish Committee of the Big Lottery Fund.
Among his interests he lists crofting , music, Gaelic and hill walking.
